The Maldives Police Service has confirmed that the temporary ban on vehicular movement in Malé, originally scheduled for 26 July from 3:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., has been revoked.
The initial traffic restrictions had been introduced to accommodate several large-scale activities planned in the Greater Malé Region, including the formal opening of the new terminal at Velana International Airport. The decision to lift the vehicle ban follows updated logistical assessments by relevant authorities.
The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation stated that while vehicle movement will now be permitted during the previously restricted hours, road closures in specific zones related to security operations and public events will still be enforced. Authorities have advised drivers to remain alert to traffic diversions and comply with instructions from law enforcement personnel.
Meanwhile, a separate ban remains in place for heavy vehicles in categories C0, C2, D, E, and V. These vehicles will be prohibited from operating between 6:00 p.m. on 27 July and 12:00 a.m. to ensure public safety during Independence Day events.
