The Civil Court has ordered the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) to pay MVR 3.6 million to Island Aviation Services Limited, following a breach of a previous settlement agreement.

Island Aviation initially filed the case in 2024, seeking to recover MVR 5.6 million owed by the MDP for flights chartered during 2023 presidential election. A settlement agreement was reached, allowing the party to pay the amount in biannual instalments.

However, Island Aviation approached the court again this year after MDP failed to adhere to the agreed payment schedule. The company requested the cancellation of the settlement and sought full recovery of the remaining amount.

In its ruling, the court confirmed that MDP had paid MVR 2 million to date, leaving a balance of MVR 3.6 million. The party argued that financial constraints, including delays in receiving state-allocated funding, had hindered its ability to pay and requested additional time.

The court rejected the request after Island Aviation opposed any extension, citing continued non-compliance. The judge subsequently annulled the previous agreement and ordered the party to settle the outstanding balance in a single payment within 30 days.
