Two High Court judges, one Criminal Court judge sworn in

Two judges have been appointed to the High Court, while one judge has been appointed to the Criminal Court.
Following interviews and recommendations, Uz Ismail Shafiu and Uz Abdul Rauf Ibrahim were sworn in as judges of the High Court, while Uz Ahmed Niyaz was appointed as a judge of the Criminal Court.
The oath-taking ceremony was held at the Supreme Court of Maldives, where the judges were sworn in by Supreme Court Judge Uz Abdulla Hameed.
Justice Rauf Ibrahim holds a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) from the International Islamic University. He has served in the judiciary for more than 16 years and previously held office as a judge of the High Court from March 26, 2011 to May 31, 2022. Prior to his reappointment, he served as Senior Legal Counsel at Maldives Ports Limited. His earlier career includes service as a Legal Assistant at the Attorney General's Office, Legal Counsel at the State Trading Organization, Assistant Registrar at the Civil Court, and Legal Consultant at the State Electric Company.
Uz Ismail Shafiu holds a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) from Cardiff University. With more than seven years of judicial service, he was serving as a Criminal Court judge at the time of his appointment to the High Court. He was appointed to the Criminal Court on September 21, 2021, having previously served as a Public Prosecutor at the Prosecutor General’s Office.
Uz Ahmed Niyaz holds a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) from Villa College. He has more than 12 years of experience in the judiciary and was serving as the Chief Magistrate of the Laamu Kalaidhoo Magistrate Court prior to his appointment to the Criminal Court. He was first appointed as a magistrate on November 13, 2013.
