The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has appointed Abdulla Jameel Moosa to the High Court of the Maldives.

He officially took his oath of office during a swearing-in ceremony held on Sunday, with Supreme Court Justice Abdulla Hameed administering the oath.

Abdulla Jameel holds a Bachelor of Sharia and Law with Honours from Kulliyyathul Dhiraasathul Islamiyya. With over 15 years of experience on the bench, he most recently served as a judge at the Civil Court. Following his resignation from the judiciary, he had been practising law.

The High Court of the Maldives serves as the appellate court for decisions issued by lower courts and tribunals, except where laws specify otherwise. It also functions as the court of first instance in cases where the Constitution or a specific law grants it original jurisdiction.

According to Article 27 of the Judicature Act, the High Court comprises 11 judges, including the Chief Judge, and all cases must be heard by a bench of an odd number of judges.

Following the latest appointment, the High Court bench now includes Chief Judge Mohamed Faisal and Justices Mohamed Niyaz, Hussain Mazeed, Hassan Shafeeu, Fathmath Farheeza, Huzaifa Mohamed, Abdul Maniu Hussain, Dheebanaz Fahmy, Mohamed Shaneez Abdulla, and Abdulla Jameel Moosa.
