Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives Kong Xianhua has stated that the shared historical experiences of China and the Maldives have created a natural resonance and mutual understanding between the two peoples on matters of peace and sovereignty.

In a message reflecting on the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance and the end of World War II, the Ambassador highlighted the historical struggles endured by both nations. He noted that while China fought a 14-year-long war against foreign invasion, the Maldivian people also courageously achieved national independence 60 years ago.

“These shared historical experiences have created a natural resonance and mutual understanding between our two peoples on issues of peace and sovereignty,” he said.

His remarks came in the context of the World Youth Peace Conference held in Beijing on 29 July, under the theme “Together for Peace.” The event brought together youth representatives from around the world to reflect on global peace and cooperation.

The Ambassador said that in the darkest chapters of history, humanity chose unity and resistance, and through tremendous sacrifice, secured peace and justice for the world. He noted that this legacy should continue to inspire the youth of today.

As global instability continues to grow, he stressed that young people should become a vital force in safeguarding peace, promoting dialogue, and advocating win-win cooperation. He noted that youth from both countries have an important role to play in learning from one another across areas such as civilisational advancement, sustainable development, and technological innovation – replacing prejudice with understanding and resolving conflict through consensus.

Additionally, the Ambassador highlighted the World Youth Peace Initiative, which calls on youth to defend peace, promote development, foster mutual learning, address climate change, and ensure technology serves the common good.
