The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has been awarded the land reclamation and shore protection project for the planned domestic airport in Baa Thulhaadhoo.

The project, valued at MVR 570.26 million, was signed on Monday by MTCC Deputy Managing Director Mohamed Jamsheed and State Minister Hassan Rasheed, representing the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure. Project completion is expected within 660 days.

Under the project, MTCC will reclaim 55.4 hectares of land and carry out 2,804 metres of stone revetment and 1,677 metres of geo-bag revetment. The airport will be built to Code 3C standards, featuring a runway measuring 1,800 metres in length and 30 metres in width.

MTCC was awarded the contract following the cancellation of a 2023 agreement with Capital Marine and Construction to reclaim 44.70 hectares for the airport development.
