Minister of Finance and Public Enterprises Moosa Zameer has been appointed President of the Local Government Authority by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, following recent changes to the Cabinet.

The LGA welcomed the appointment, noting that the role is held by a minister designated by the President under Article 140 of the Constitution and Article 59 of the Decentralisation Act, with the authority accountable to Parliament.

Minister Zameer assumes the position after it became vacant following the resignation of former LGA President Adam Shareef Umar.

The appointment comes amid the Cabinet reshuffle, with the current Cabinet now comprising 15 ministers. The LGA has previously stated that these changes will not result in any legal vacuum in its operations.
