Mammography services have been introduced at Baa Atoll Hospital, giving residents access to local breast cancer screening for the first time and reducing reliance on facilities in Malé.
The service, inaugurated by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu during his visit to Eydhafushi, aims to improve early detection and treatment outcomes for breast cancer, one of the most common forms of cancer in the Maldives.
The President noted that the high incidence of cancer in the country underscores the need for expanding diagnostic services across the islands. He emphasised that early diagnosis is key to successful treatment and reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to strengthening healthcare infrastructure nationwide.
After officially launching the service, President Dr Muizzu toured the hospital’s new breast cancer screening room, which houses the mammography equipment.
