Minister of Homeland Security and Technology, Ali Ihusaan, broke ground for the construction of a new police station in Baa Thulhaadhoo. The new station is part of the Government’s nationwide programme to expand law enforcement services to all inhabited islands.
The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, who is currently on a tour of Baa Atoll’s inhabited islands. Also in attendance were the Managing Director of Fenaka Corporation and the President of Thulhaadhoo Council.
The Thulhaadhoo police station is the latest project in the Government’s initiative to build 75 police stations across the country. Under the plan, Fenaka Corporation will construct 40 stations, the Road Development Corporation (RDC) will handle 20, and the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) will complete 15.
Once completed, the programme will ensure that every inhabited island in the Maldives is served by its own police station, enabling law enforcement services to be delivered directly at the community level. The initiative is expected to enhance public safety, strengthen security in rural areas, and help reduce crime rates nationwide.
