The People’s Majlis has approved a resolution to extend the second session of the parliamentary year by one week, pushing the end date from 15 August to 21 August.

The motion, proposed by Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla at the start of today’s sitting, was passed with 38 votes in favour and five against. The Speaker cited a backlog of important unfinished work as the reason for the extension, emphasising the need to complete key legislative and procedural matters before adjournment.

Under parliamentary rules, the year is divided into three sessions: the first from 1 February to 15 May, the second from 1 June to 15 August, and the third from 1 October to the end of November.
