The Ministry of Economic Development and Trade has contracted the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) to develop a cultural centre in Baa Thulhaadhoo.

The agreement was formalised on 11 August, and was signed by MTCC Managing Director Ahmed Saudhee and Minister of State for Economic Development and Trade Abdulla Shiyaz.

The signing took place during President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s visit to the island as part of his ongoing tour of the Atoll, and aligns with the President’s vision to establish a cultural centre inThulhaadhoo. The Business Centre Corporation (BCC) had announced last year that it was seeking contractors for the development.

Known for its traditional lacquer work and flourishing local tourism, Thulhaadhoo is expected to benefit significantly from the cultural centre, which will provide a platform to promote heritage crafts, stimulate economic activity, and enhance the island’s appeal to visitors.
