The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has been renamed as the Environmental Regulatory Authority (ERA) and placed under the purview of the Ministry of Tourism and Environment.

The change was announced in a directive issued under the President's discretionary authority, as conferred by Article 116(a) of the Constitution of the Republic of Maldives.

According to the President’s Office, the renaming is intended to better reflect the institution’s core mandate of regulating the Maldives’ environment and to improve the efficiency and speed of its work.

The authority will continue to operate under the Ministry of Tourism and Environment, with a focus on environmental regulation and policy enforcement nationwide.
