The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has held talks with the Chinese Government to strengthen measures to combat corruption in the Maldives.

ACC stated on X that its leaders met with the Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives, Kong Xianhua, to discuss opportunities for cooperation. The talks explored potential areas of collaboration with Chinese authorities to enhance anti-corruption work.

According to the Ambassador, discussions included ways to address corruption in both countries and information was shared on effective anti-corruption mechanisms implemented in China.

The meeting resulted in agreement on initiatives such as the exchange of experiences between the two countries and the introduction of training programmes to enhance anti-corruption capacity.

Participants also emphasised the need to create a mechanism for the exchange of information between the Maldives and China. The discussions underlined the importance of countries working together to prevent corruption.

The ACC has previously engaged with various nations to explore partnerships aimed at improving counter-corruption measures.

Ambassador Kong stated that he had conveyed to the ACC President, Uz  Adam Shamil, that China’s approach to tackling corruption was based on supervision by the public and self-supervision by the Government. He added that both sides agreed international cooperation was essential to anti-corruption efforts and expressed commitment to enhancing knowledge sharing and capacity building.
