The ground was broken for the Baa Goidhoo Police Station today, while the island also saw the official launch of ATM services.
The event was attended by Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan, Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen, and Thulhaadhoo MP Abdul Hannan Aboobakuru, with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu also present.
Earlier, President Dr Muizzu had emphasised the importance of establishing police stations on every inhabited island across the country to ensure adequate police presence. In line with this commitment, several police stations have since been constructed in various regions.
Alongside the police station ceremony, the President officially inaugurated the ATM service in Goidhoo. The occasion was further graced by the presence of Bank of Maldives Chairperson Ahmed Ali Habeeb and Managing Director and CEO Mohamed Shareef. The introduction of ATM services on the island represents a significant advancement, addressing local needs and aligning with the Administration's intention to improve banking facilities throughout the islands.
The Bank of Maldives is currently advancing plans to extend ATM services to all islands in the country. By the conclusion of the President’s visit, six islands within Baa Atoll will have new ATM facilities available.
The ATM installed in Goidhoo will offer residents and businesses round-the-clock access to a variety of banking services, including cash withdrawals, deposits, remittances, credit card transactions, and loan payments. This development supports the bank’s ongoing initiative to enhance financial accessibility nationwide.
According to a statement from the bank, 37 ATMs have been introduced this year alone, with the aim of extending such services to every village before the end of the year.
