Baa Hithaadhoo Council has urged the government to address urgent development needs, including land scarcity, inadequate housing, harbour limitations, tourism challenges, and worsening coastal erosion.

During a meeting with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu at the Hithaadhoo Council Secretariat, the Island Council, Women’s Development Committee, and heads of local institutions stressed the need for additional land allocation and adequate housing and shelter for residents. They also urged the extension of the harbour channel marker beyond current boundaries and measures to curb coastal erosion.

Other issues raised included the development of local tourism, the establishment of a dedicated youth centre, limited space and staff shortages at the health centre, and overcrowding at Hithaadhoo School.

President Dr Muizzu assured that he would carefully review all concerns. Cabinet Ministers and senior State-Owned Enterprise officials also updated the council and WDC members on ongoing development projects on the island.
