Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has reported steady progress on the Faafu Magoodhoo Airport development, with 36 per cent of shore protection works now complete.

The dredged area is being reinforced with geo bag revetment along 3,300 metres.

MTCC confirmed that 55 per cent of dredging works have been completed, including reclaiming 30 hectares from the island’s forest for the airport. In total, 48 hectares will be dredged to provide space for industrial and social infrastructure. The airport will feature a 1,500-metre runway.

The project, awarded to MTCC in October 2022, commenced in early 2023 but was temporarily halted before resuming in mid-2024. The Government has assured that the airport will be completed within the current presidential term despite earlier delays.
