The Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure has contracted the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) to carry out the land reclamation project in Baa Atoll Hithaadhoo.

The agreement was signed by Minister Dr Abdulla Muthalib on behalf of the ministry and Managing Director Ahmed Saudhee on behalf of MTCC. Under the project, MTCC will reclaim 15 hectares of land, construct 691 metres of revetment, and install six groynes measuring 25 metres each around the reclaimed area.

Valued at MVR 137 million, the project is scheduled for completion within 450 days. Once finished, it is expected to significantly alleviate land shortages in Hithaadhoo.

The announcement coincided with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s visit to the island, during which he met residents to discuss local development priorities. The land reclamation project is a key component of efforts to expand available land for housing and infrastructure in the community.
