The Maldives Police Service has destroyed a substantial quantity of alcohol confiscated in connection with various cases.

The disposal took place on 13 August in Dhoonidhoo under the supervision of a designated committee, in accordance with regulations governing the destruction of seized alcoholic beverages.

According to police, the stock had been confiscated by the Drug Enforcement Department, Tourist Police and Hulhumalé Police, as well as evidence in multiple cases. In total, 1,823 items were destroyed, comprising 1,432 bottles of liquor, 299 bottles of beer and 92 other assorted items.

Authorities said the controlled destruction was carried out to ensure that the confiscated items would not be misused or re-enter circulation. Police emphasised that strict procedures were followed to guarantee safety and compliance with the law during the process.
