Over MVR 32M disbursed by NSPA for medical aid in July

The National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) provided more than MVR 32.8 million in medical assistance last month, with the majority of support directed to patients receiving care within the Maldives.
According to NSPA data from 14 August, MVR 21.1 million was spent on domestic treatments and MVR 11.7 million on patients undergoing treatment abroad. In total, 1,521 cases covering 22 types of illnesses received aid during the month.
Cancer treatment accounted for the highest expenditure, with 146 cases supported, followed by bone diseases (132 cases) and vascular conditions (124 cases). Other major categories included throat diseases (121 cases), infertility disorders (119), respiratory illnesses (113), and gastrointestinal diseases (106).
Aid was also provided for optical care, kidney disease, paediatric care, mental health, cardiovascular diseases, skin conditions, haematological disorders, endocrine issues, autoimmune diseases, dental care, liver conditions, and thalassaemia.
In addition to NSPA’s aid, ADK Hospital and Treetop Hospital collectively contributed MVR 8.2 million to assist 575 patients, with ADK covering 216 cases and Treetop 359 cases.
NSPA continues to operate a range of financial support programmes for those in need, both domestically and abroad.Since August 2025, patients travelling overseas for treatment under NSPA schemes are eligible to receive up to USD 2,000 in bank assistance to help with expenses.
