The Maldives Media Council (MMC) has announced it has received 92 submissions for the twelfth edition of its annual Journalism Awards, reflecting the breadth of reporting and media work undertaken across the nation.

Entries for the 2025 awards cover work published during the previous calendar year. Categories for this year’s competition include investigative journalism, social impact, political affairs, judicial and legal affairs, business and economic affairs, sports, photojournalism, documentary, feature, lifestyle, entertainment and the arts, environmental and sustainable development reporting, as well as honours for the most promising journalist, journalist of the year, and best regional newspaper production.

Launched in 2014, the Journalism Awards have become a cornerstone initiative for recognising exceptional reporting, upholding ethical standards, and enhancing professional practices within the Maldivian media industry. According to the MMC, the programme is designed to support journalists, celebrate their achievements, and drive the ongoing improvement of editorial quality.
