Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has denied rumours circulating about his son, Abdulla Mahil Shaheem.

Some media outlets had reported claims that Mahil’s luggage was seized upon arrival in the Maldives for carrying vape equipment and that he had been fined millions of Rufiyaa. The Minister dismissed these reports, stressing that no such incident had occurred.

Minister Dr Shaheem further clarified that Mahil is not employed at the Maldivian Embassy in Malaysia, countering speculation linked to the rumours. He urged the public not to spread misinformation and called on those sharing such reports to issue corrections.

The import and sale of e-cigarettes, vaping devices, and related products have been prohibited in the Maldives since 12 November 2024, with penalties established for violations of the law.
