Minister of Defence Mohamed Ghassan Maumoon has urged Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) members to prioritise the nation above themselves.

Speaking at the handover ceremony of the naval vessel Dharumavantha, Minister Ghassan said the MNDF has consistently defended the country with sincerity, even when resources were limited. He described the soldiers as courageous servicemen who have shown unwavering commitment in protecting the Maldives.

The Minister assured the public that the nation’s freedom, sovereignty and independence would always be preserved, emphasising that the MNDF will continue to uphold its duty with dedication.

The newly donated vessel, Dharumavantha, is the largest addition to the MNDF fleet in the country’s history. It represents a significant step in strengthening maritime security, enhancing the Maldives’ capacity to safeguard its waters, and enabling the Maldivian Navy to contribute more effectively as a responsible partner in maintaining peace and security in the Indian Ocean.
