Over 1,500 passengers have utilised the newly launched Raajje Transport Link (RTL) ferry service in Baa Atoll over the past three weeks, according to the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation.
The service was formally inaugurated by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu on 11 August during a ceremony held in Eydhafushi as part of his visit to Baa Atoll. Although officially launched in August, ferry operations in the Atoll began on 28 July.
Ministry data reveal that 451 passengers used the service in its first week from 28 July to 3 August, while a further 1,071 passengers travelled between 4 and 17 August. In total, 1,522 passengers have been recorded in the past three weeks.
The Baa Atoll RTL service operates on two fixed routes using two high-speed ferries. Routes are designed to connect inhabited islands with the atoll capital, providing easier access to airports and essential public services.
As with the introduction of RTL in other atolls, the first week of services in Baa Atoll was run as a promotional trial, with no fares charged. Regular fares and schedules are now available through the RTL app and official website.
