President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has inaugurated water and sanitation services in Alifu Alifu Feridhoo; a major step in improving essential infrastructure for the island community.
The service was launched during a ceremony held as part of the President’s visit to the island on 19 August, 2025.
According to project details, a 5.04-kilometre sewage main network and a 1.07-kilometre pumping line have been established. The development also includes three pumping stations, one sea outfall, an administrative building, and an RO building with water generation plants. Three water storage tanks have been installed, with the facility powered by solar panels.
Additional works include the construction of a borehole, pumping station, rejection line and water testing system. The MVR 69.32 million project is designed to provide residents with safe drinking water and reliable sanitation services.
During the same visit, the Government contracted the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) with upgrading Feridhoo Health Centre. The agreement was signed between Health Minister Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim and MTCC Managing Director Ahmed Saudee.
The existing health centre, first opened in 2003, currently operates 16 hours a day and handles more than 4,000 patient visits annually. The planned expansion will modernise the facility and improve the quality of healthcare services available to the island’s population.
