The Government is preparing to introduce A-level or higher secondary education in five additional islands from next year, the Ministry of Education has announced.
Speaking to local media, State Minister for Education Dr Ahmed Mohamed said the decision was taken after students in the five islands achieved strong results in this year’s secondary school examinations.
Expanding access to higher secondary education is a key priority of the Administration. The Government has also announced plans to designate A-level as the standard school-leaving qualification in the Maldives.
In addition to increasing the number of schools offering A-levels, the entry criteria required for students to join higher secondary education have also been eased to encourage greater participation.
