President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has assured the residents of Haa Dhaalu Hirimaradhoo that every resident migrating from Hirimaradhoo will be provided with both a land plot and a house in Haa Dhaalu Hanimaadhoo.

Speaking to Hirimaradhoo residents, the President explained that anyone currently owning a house in Hirimaradhoo will be allocated a house in Hanimaadhoo. He also noted that construction will commence on the designated plots as soon as land becomes available.

In addition to housing provision, the President highlighted that residents will receive financial assistance for relocation. He observed that the amounts previously offered were relatively modest considering current economic conditions, and confirmed that the Government has resolved to revise the sum granted during such relocations.

The President further outlined that the construction of houses and associated services in Hanimaadhoo is scheduled to begin shortly, with the work expected to be completed within a maximum period of 18 months, or one-and-a-half years.

He concluded by emphasising that the Government’s policy regarding population and development relocation is intended to allow residents to move to islands of their preference. Decisions on which islands will undergo relocation are made through consultations with local communities, ensuring that the wishes of residents are carefully considered.
