Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has been contracted with the housing project intended for the residents of Haa Dhaalu Hirimaradhoo migrating to Haa Dhaalu Hanimaadhoo.

The framework agreement was formalised during President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s visit to Hirimaradhoo, where he also engaged with the island’s residents.

The agreement was signed on behalf of the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure by Minister Dr Abdulla Muttalib, while Managing Director Brig Gen (retd) Abdulla Zuhair signed on behalf of HDC.

Hirimadhoo residents requested the relocation of Hirimaradhoo residents to another island from the Government in September 2024. Following discussions, the Government decided to transfer the residents to Hanimaadhoo.

The Government has earmarked an area in Hanimaadhoo for the settlement of Hirimaradhoo residents, and the housing project will be developed on this land. Under the agreement, HDC has also been tasked with establishing municipal facilities in the area.

The President explained that the relocation is part of the Government’s plan to manage population and development, with Hirimaradhoo residents moving to Hanimaadhoo under the housing project.
