The Maldives Police Service (MPS) has raised concerns over the increasing use of counterfeit academic credentials in applications for employment and higher education.
In a statement issued today, the MPS expressed grave concern, noting that such actions undermine the integrity of the nation’s educational system. They added that while such actions result in unfair advantages upon offenders, they have an adverse impact on academic and professional standards, as well as the quality of public services.
MPS stated that, in collaboration with the Maldives Qualifications Authority (MQA) and other relevant authorities, investigations are underway into these cases of document forgery. They further noted that several cases have already progressed to the prosecution stage.
In the statement, the police reminded the public that forgery and the use of forged credentials are punishable offences, and that such cases will be thoroughly investigated and prosecuted.
MPS also advised educational institutions and employers to ensure compliance with the national qualifications framework when verifying credentials. They urged that any credentials suspected to be counterfeit should be reported.
