Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusan has stated that upon completion of the construction of police stations across the country, a special programme will be launched to support individuals in moving away from criminal environments.

He made the statement in an interview with state media, noting that when the current Administration assumed office, policing in most islands was being carried out without adequate infrastructure. He added that a key target of the Administration has been to establish modern police stations equipped with proper resources and enhanced capacity to accommodate additional manpower. He added that increasing manpower to enhance services is a particular priority at regional headquarters, atoll-level stations, and in highly populated communities.

The Home Minister stated that the newly developed police stations will be equipped with facilities to strengthen investigative work, including dedicated intelligence units and custodial cells, as well as vehicle towing and repair services. He added that with these resources in place, a special programme will commence to support individuals in moving away from criminal environments, alongside efforts to dismantle criminal networks within communities.

The current Administration has announced its commitment to ensuring that policing services are accessible to all communities, regardless of their size or population. It has also pledged to establish police stations on every island by the end of this presidential term.
