President welcomes Maldives’ new role as UNHRC Vice-President

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has welcomed the election of the Republic of Maldives to serve as Vice-President of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) for the remainder of 2025.
Highlighting the Maldives’ longstanding record of championing human rights issues, particularly those concerning Small Island Developing States (SIDS), President Dr Muizzu added that this reaffirms the nation’s commitment to the principles of justice, equality, and human dignity, while also underscoring its active role within the Human Rights Council.
The President reiterated that the Maldives remains dedicated to working towards a more just, inclusive, and equitable world for all.
The Maldives, in its role as Vice-President of the UNHRC, will represent the Asia-Pacific Group and undertake responsibilities on its behalf.
