Major development projects launched in Nolhivaranfaru

Several development project agreements were signed in Haa Dhaalu Nolhivaranfaru last night, during President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s visit to the island.
The initiatives include the Health Centre Extension Project, a Multipurpose Hall and School Infrastructure Development Project, a Harbour Expansion Project, the establishment of a Football Stadium, and the development of a Sports Complex. In addition, land previously allocated for tourism development was officially removed from the registry of the Ministry of Tourism and Environment and returned to the Island Council for community use.
During the ceremony, 100 newly developed housing units were also formally handed over to the Island Council, with a commemorative plaque presented by President Dr Muizzu.
Speaking to residents, the President described the occasion as the start of a new chapter for Nolhivaranfaru, emphasising that the projects would elevate the island’s progress to new heights. He pledged close Government oversight to ensure timely completion of the initiatives while maintaining essential services during the transition period.
The President also announced that waste management operations by the Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) would begin on the island within five months, highlighting the Government’s commitment to sustainable development.
Reiterating his development vision for the nation, President Dr Muizzu assured that development efforts would continue to be swift and focused on the needs of the people.
