Total lunar eclipse visible across Maldives tonight

A total lunar eclipse will be visible across the Maldives tonight.

According to the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, the phenomenon will be visible to the naked eye from 8:28 p.m. local time and is expected to continue until 1:55 a.m.

The Ministry has instructed island councils to arrange eclipse prayers at the largest mosque in each island at 11:12 p.m.

In Malé, the eclipse prayer will be held at the Islamic Centre, while in Hulhumalé it will take place at Masjid Al Sheikh Qasim bin Al-Thani (Hulhumalé Grand Mosque).

The lunar eclipse will be fully visible in the Maldives and is also expected to be seen across much of Asia, Africa, Australia and Europe. The next total lunar eclipse that will be visible in the Maldives is forecast for 31 December 2028.
