The Commissioner of Police, Ali Shujau, has announced that investigations targeting drug dealers will be expedited, with visible outcomes expected soon.

Speaking on PSM News' Haftha 52 programme, Commissioner Shujau highlighted the efforts undertaken by the police over the past year to address drug-related issues and strengthen public confidence.

Upon assuming office, Commissioner Shujau identified the implementation of a strategic action plan, under the guidance of Minister of Homeland Security and Technology, Ali Ihusaan, as a key priority. This plan emphasises the prevention of drug trafficking and gang-related crimes.

Over the past year, the police have seized significant quantities of drugs and alcohol and disrupted numerous establishments involved in illegal activities. The Commissioner noted that while over 40 drug-peddling locations in the capital had been shut down, some resumed operations shortly after closure.

Commissioner Shujau underscored the importance of addressing the involvement of senior figures in the drug trade to achieve long-term solutions. Efforts are also underway to enhance treatment facilities in collaboration with the NDA.

“To effectively curb this issue, it is essential to target the networks responsible for smuggling and distributing drugs. Investigations are being conducted to identify and act against these groups,” the Commissioner said.

He added that increasing police visibility and building public trust remain ongoing priorities, with many citizens expressing their support for the measures implemented.
