The Minister of Youth Empowerment, Information, and Arts, Ibrahim Waheed, has announced a significant allocation of MVR 25 million in next year’s budget to support Maldivian artisans and elevate craftsmanship and artistry in the country.

Highlighting the Ministry’s accomplishments and future plans, Minister Waheed detailed several initiatives aimed at empowering the nation’s creative community. Among these are the development of a high-quality art gallery and a modern cinema facility to meet the growing demand from local filmmakers.

“There’s only one Olympus theatre here, and many directors are queuing to showcase their films. We’ll ensure proper arrangements are made,” he stated.

The Minister also announced the construction of a new building for the Maldives National Library, set to begin next year, and the completion of seven state-of-the-art regional libraries by the end of the current term. These developments aim to enhance access to knowledge and resources nationwide.

This initiative is part of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s pledge to provide financial assistance to advance the arts sector in the Maldives.

President Dr Muizzu reiterated his commitment to the artistic community during the "Unveiling Visions 2024" event in July, hosted by the Maldivian Artist Community (MAC). He emphasised that the allocated funds would be used to procure essential equipment and supplies, enabling artisans to refine their craft and seize new opportunities in their field.
