The Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has reported a five per cent increase in international flight movements to the Maldives during the first seven months of 2025, reflecting stronger connectivity and robust growth in the tourism sector.

According to MMA statistics, 10,187 international flights operated between January and July this year, up from 9,698 flights during the same period in 2024. The rise was driven mainly by scheduled services, which saw a 5.5 per cent increase, with 9,358 flights recorded compared to 8,866 last year. In contrast, general aviation, including charter flights and private jets, saw a slight decline, with 829 movements compared to 832 in the previous year.

The increase in flight frequency coincides with a surge in tourist arrivals. Over 1.5 million visitors travelled to the Maldives so far in 2025, representing a 9.7 per cent rise compared to the same period last year. Officials noted that this growth highlights the continued popularity of the Maldives as a premier destination and the success of efforts to improve air connectivity.
