Five houses in Addu City suffered severe roof damage as heavy rain battered the Maldives yesterday, forcing 17 residents to evacuate their homes. The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Southern Command launched emergency response operations across multiple districts of the Atoll.
The damaged properties include one house each in Maradhoo, Maradhoo-Feydhoo and Hulhudhoo, whilst two houses were affected in Feydhoo. In one of the worst-hit properties in Maradhoo-Feydhoo, 13 residents, including four children under 12, were temporarily relocated to relatives' homes.
MNDF personnel were deployed to clear debris and assist with roof repairs, whilst the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) coordinated with the Addu City Council to support displaced families.
The Maldives Meteorological Service issued a white alert across the archipelago, warning of continued severe weather that is expected to persist for five days from Wednesday. Authorities continued to monitor the situation as the cyclone's effects impacted the Southern Atolls.
