The Government is working to supply ambulances to 50 islands, following concerns over shortages that have forced some patients to be taken to health facilities in unsuitable vehicles. The vehicles will be prioritised for islands without any ambulance service, with Thaa Omadhoo among those set to receive one within the year.

Officials highlighted that poor maintenance and inadequate storage have rendered many previously distributed ambulances unusable, while some islands were never provided with one at all. The new effort is part of a broader push to strengthen healthcare services in the atolls, including expanding medical provision and upgrading local health infrastructure.
