The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has appointed the former Family Court Chief Judge Uz Ibrahim Mahir to the High Court, filling one of two vacant seats. Mahir received the highest marks among 14 candidates. The vacancies arose after former Chief Justice Uz Hussain Shaheed and Justice Uz Mohamed Saleem were elevated to the Supreme Court. An earlier plan to appoint former Civil Court Judge Uz Abdullah Jameel Moosa and former Home Ministry Deputy Minister Mohamed Shaheed was revised after Shaheed withdrew following public criticism.
