President of the Elections Commission (EC), Mohamed Zahid, has confirmed that the upcoming Maldives Media and Broadcasting Commission elections will be conducted within the commission’s current budget. He said the vote will be held without requiring additional funds or staff, assuring that all necessary procedures will be followed and the process will run smoothly with the resources already available.

The MMBC elections are scheduled for 11 October, with applications for candidates open until 2pm on next Saturday. Four members will be elected in total, two representing broadcasters and two representing other media, completing the seven-member body. Zahid stressed that while the poll may be small in scale, its legitimacy would not be questioned, adding that the EC remains mindful of both financial and economic considerations when carrying out its mandate.
