The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has announced the completion of quay wall construction along Boduthakurufaanu Magu.
MTCC said that the installation of the stormwater management system is currently in progress. This system will play a crucial role in improving drainage capacity and mitigating flooding in the area.
The redevelopment project includes the resurfacing of approximately 830 metres of road, the installation of 737 metres of sheet piles to reinforce the quay wall, and the construction of new sub-base layers. In addition, a dedicated pedestrian lane and a modern drainage network are being developed to enhance road safety and accessibility.
MTCC stated that the quay wall works were completed on schedule, with asphalt laying expected to begin once the ongoing drainage and stormwater management installations are finalised.
The project is part of the Government’s effort to modernise Malé’s road network under the direction of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu. Once completed, the upgraded Boduthakurufaanu Magu is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion and improve pedestrian movement, while strengthening the city’s infrastructure resilience against flooding.
MTCC reaffirmed its commitment to completing the remaining works efficiently, ensuring the project meets both functional and environmental standards for sustainable urban development in the capital.
