Minister of Finance and Planning Moosa Zameer has pledged the Government’s continued support to strengthen the accounting profession in the Maldives, emphasising its critical role in building trust within the financial system.

He made the remarks while inaugurating the Maldives Accountants Forum 2025, the country’s largest platform for accountants and auditors to exchange knowledge and expertise.

Addressing participants, Minister Zameer said that despite rapid changes in the financial sector, trust remains the foundation of the system, beginning with the work of accountants. Reliable reporting, he noted, enables banks to lend responsibly, investors to make informed choices, and policymakers to plan effectively.

He also underlined the contribution of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Maldives, describing it as both a regulator and guardian of trust and integrity in the financial sector. The Minister commended its role in raising auditing and ethical standards, which he said had strengthened the foundations of the nation’s financial system.

Highlighting the need for collaboration, Minister Zameer stressed that robust accounting practices cannot be achieved by a single institution alone, and called for continued support from all industry stakeholders. He concluded by assuring that the Government will provide full assistance to enhance the role of accounting professionals in national development.
