A total of ten individuals have applied for the vacant positions at the Maldives Media and Broadcasting Commission (MMBC). The list of applicants has been forwarded to the Parliament’s Committee on Independent Institutions for review.
The MMBC, established under the Maldives Media and Broadcasting Regulation Act, comprises seven members – four elected through a media vote and three appointed by the People’s Majlis.
Applications for the parliamentary appointments were opened on 30 September 2025, and the deadline closed with ten candidates submitting their names. The applicants include senior officials from the Maldives Media Council and the former Broadcasting Commission, which was dissolved following amendments to the Media Regulation Act.
Four members representing broadcasters and other media outlets have already been appointed to the Commission without the need for an election.
