Funadhoo to receive comprehensive infrastructure and community upgrades

Agreements have been formalised for a series of development projects in Shaviyani Funadhoo, during President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s to the island. 

The Government handed over the project to establish an Islamic centre to Noorahdheen Investment, with Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed signing on behalf of the Government. Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) was contracted to develop a new campus of the Maldives National University, the island’s harbour, and road development. 

The harbour project, valued at MVR 92.73 million, includes dredging, bund walls, groyning, pavement works, and harbour lighting, and is scheduled for completion within 450 days. The road development project, valued at MVR 105.48 million, will deliver a 3.85-kilometre road, drainage systems, pavements, and service lines within 520 days.

MTCC was also awarded the construction of a new 50-bed Funadhoo Hospital, while the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company Limited (MACL) will develop a sports complex on the island. Waste Management Corporation Limited (WAMCO) was contracted to manage the island’s waste.

In addition, uniforms were handed over to Rangers appointed to oversee the establishment of a nature park in Farukolhu, as part of the Government’s initiative to create a nature park in every atoll. The handover was conducted by Minister of Tourism and Environment Thoriq Ibrahim.
