Second body recovered after landing craft capsizes; search continues for one missing

A second body has been recovered following the capsizing of a landing craft travelling from Malé to Reethi Rah Resort, according to the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF).

MNDF confirmed via social media that the body was found on the seabed during an ongoing search operation. The identity of the second victim has not yet been established.

Three people had been reported missing after the vessel, Almark Fiya, capsized, a Maldivian, a Sri Lankan, and an Indian national.

Earlier this morning, the body of the Maldivian crew member, identified as 38-year-old Ahmed Shifan from Gaafu Dhaalu. Dhaandhoo, Sarusoonu, was recovered. His funeral prayers are scheduled to be held after Maghrib prayers today.

Seven people were on board the vessel at the time of the incident. Search efforts by MNDF and relevant authorities are ongoing to locate the remaining missing individual.
