The Ministry of Tourism and Environment has held discussions with Fuvahmulah City Council to advance the Government’s Five Million Trees initiative.

During the meeting, plans were made to coordinate the tree-planting efforts in Fuvahmulah City, and necessary materials for the programme, including four different types of seeds, were handed over to the Council.

Launched on 5 June 2024 to mark World Environment Day, the Five Million Trees Programme is a key part of the Government’s environmental conservation agenda. The initiative aims to plant 90 species of trees across the Maldives, including rare indigenous species as well as shade and fruit-bearing trees.
