Minister of Foreign Affairs Iruthisham Adam has commended women serving in the Maldivian Foreign Service, describing their contribution to representing and advancing the country's interests as invaluable.

In a message marking the International Day of Women in Diplomacy, observed annually on 24 June, minister Iruthisham said Maldivian women serving both at home and abroad continue to play an important role in promoting the country's interests, enhancing its international reputation and advocating for national priorities on the global stage.

She also highlighted the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' efforts to support the advancement of women in diplomacy and encouraged women serving in the Foreign Service to continue strengthening the Maldives' bilateral and multilateral relations while bringing further recognition to the country.

The International Day of Women in Diplomacy has been observed annually since 2022 following the adoption of a United Nations resolution initiated by the Maldives to recognise the contribution of women to diplomacy and international relations.
