Parliament has approved the appointment of Dr Mariyam Shabeena Ahmed as the Maldives' Non-Resident Ambassador to Indonesia, with all 49 members participating in the vote backing her nomination.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu submitted Dr Shabeena's nomination to Parliament on 13 May in accordance with Article 14 of the Foreign Service Act. The nomination was subsequently reviewed by Parliament's Foreign Relations Committee, which endorsed her appointment on 22 June before it was presented to the full Parliament for approval.

Dr Shabeena currently serves as the Maldives' High Commissioner to Malaysia, Non-Resident Ambassador to Philippines, and will now also serve as the country's Non-Resident Ambassador to Indonesia. Under the Foreign Service Act, ambassadors and non-resident ambassadors are appointed by the President with the approval of Parliament.
