Maldives reaffirms commitment to inclusive labour practices at OIC Labour Ministers' Conference

Minister of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development Dr Ali Haidar Ahmed has reaffirmed the Maldives’ commitment to promoting decent work, social justice and inclusive labour practices at the 6th Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Labour Ministers’ Conference.
The conference, held under the theme 'Local Experiences, Global Achievements: Success Stories in the Islamic World', brought together labour ministers and representatives from OIC member states to share experiences and strategies in advancing labour standards and workforce development.
In his address, Dr Haidar highlighted the enactment of the Industrial Relations Act and the Occupational Health and Safety Act, which strengthen labour governance and social dialogue in the Maldives.
The minister also highlighted the Government’s continued focus on skills development and youth empowerment through initiatives such as the expansion of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes, the free degree scheme, the Career Services Centre, and the development of an automated job-matching platform.
