The Maldives has recorded a significant rise in tourist arrivals from the United Kingdom ahead of the World Travel Market (WTM) London 2025, which began yesterday at ExCeL London.
According to Visit Maldives Corporation (VMC), 159,615 visitors from the UK had arrived in the Maldives as of 21 October 2025, a 16 per cent increase compared to the same period in 2024, when the figure stood at 137,288. The UK now accounts for 8.8 per cent of total arrivals, ranking third among all source markets.
The Maldives delegation to WTM London is led by Minister of Tourism and Environment Thoriq Ibrahim. The team includes 160 representatives from 70 companies across the tourism sector, including resorts, hotels, guesthouses, and travel agencies.
The Maldives stand, covering 650 square meters, features 46 co-exhibitor counters, 55 meeting tables, and three industry areas for business meetings and networking. It also includes a Liverpool FC Fan Zone under an ongoing partnership, and an interactive section with a holographic display highlighting the country’s marine biodiversity.
Minister Thoriq said the UK remains one of the Maldives’ most important tourism markets, noting that the country’s presence at WTM London provides an opportunity to strengthen cooperation with industry partners.
VMC’s Managing Director, Ibrahim Shiuree, said the growth from the UK market reflects the outcome of ongoing promotional activities and partnerships.
To complement its participation at WTM London, VMC has also launched a two-month taxi advertising campaign in central London, featuring 100 branded taxis promoting the Maldives.
As of 4 November 2025, total tourist arrivals to the Maldives have exceeded 1.85 million, according to official figures.
