Trademark Bill puts Maldives on path to achieve 15% of GDP from Creative Economy: Minister Saeed

Minister of Economic Development and Trade Mohamed Saeed has stated that the ratification of the Trademark Bill places the Maldives on track to achieve 15 per cent of its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) from the Creative Economy.
In a post on his official X account following the ratification of the Trademark Bill, Minister Saeed congratulated President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, describing the development as a key milestone in strengthening the nation’s legal framework for intellectual property.
He noted that with the Maldives Intellectual Property Office scheduled to commence operations on 1 January 2026, the country is laying a strong foundation for innovation, creativity, and economic diversification. The Minister added that the initiative positions the Maldives to realise the Government’s target of deriving 15 per cent of GDP from the Creative Economy, ensuring that Maldivian talent, creativity, and brands are protected and empowered.
Fostering a creative economy is a key pledge of President Dr Muizzu’s Administration, targeting 15 per cent of national GDP from creative industries.
